Since 2011, the Transcantábrico Gran Lujo has carried travelers along narrow-gauge rails first laid over a century ago, tracing the wild Atlantic coastline of the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia. Restored 1920s carriages, dressed in stained glass and polished wood, ferry just 28 guests between San Sebastián and Santiago de Compostela — a route once used to move coal and passengers, now reserved for one of the slowest, most indulgent journeys in Europe.
